Festivals RATH YATRA : PURIAbout
Rath Yatra : This festival is orinating in Puri, Orissa state
of India associated with Lord Jagannath. This Hindu festival is
celebrated in the month of July in Ashadh Sud. It is made by the
combination of two words : Rath means chariot and Yatra means
pilgrimage. Story of Rath Yatra : There are many stories associated with
the Yatra mentioned in the vedic sculpture, Mahabharata, Ramayana. More

Sama-Chakeva : This festival is celebrated in the state of
Bihar, the eastern region of India. This festival is related to
brother-sister relationship and is celebrated in the winter month. The
idle of birds pair used in this festival called Sama & Chakeva. This
festival is celebrated in mithilanchal. The colorful birds migrated from
the Himalayas to the plains, so to welcome the birds this festival is
done. People makes idol of birds of clay and decorated them. Girls and
women sings song on Sama- Chakeva and this festival is ended by joyfull
"Vidai" of Sama and wish that these birds return again next
year. The role of "Chugla" is also very important. Women sings
song on "Chugla". On the ending day of this festival, "Chugla"
is fired. About
Onam : It is one of the most important festival of Kerala. It
is celebrated in the month of Chingam(August or September).It is the ten
days festivals starting from Atham and end on Thiru Onam. This festival
is celebrated to welcome king Mahabali. It is beleive that he comes once
in a year to visit Kerala. So to welcome him, this festival is
celebrated. Legend
of Onam : The story of Onam is related to the 5th avatar of
Vaamana and King Mahabali when he reigned the Kerala. Everybody in the
state was happy by the work of king Mahabali and a wise king. He treated
equally to the rich and poor. He respects sages and beggers too. He was
most popular due to his nature. The fame of King Mahabali started
jealous in Gods. As he was egoistic in nature, gods used the advantage
of his egoistic nature. Lord Vishnu came to him in Vaamana avatar and
said he was a poor brahmin and few piece of land. Brahmin demanded that
he took only that areas which he covered in three steps. King was
surprised and said he has lots of land and agreed on the brahmin
proposal. Sage Sukracharya guess that Vaamana is Vishnu and warned the
king also. But he replied that it would be a sin for the king to back on
his word. Vaamana expand himself in very large size which was not
measurable and he covered whole earth in first step, whole sky in the
second and then he asked king Mahabali where he put his third step now.
Then Mahabali asked him to place his last step on his head. By this way
king Mahabali lost his reigned. But the king requested him that he be
allowed to visit Kerala once in a year. |
